Jeff Hazelton is the President and Chief Technology Officer of BioLucid, a company with the singular focus and vision to “make health visual.” BioLucid is composed of artists, programmers, and scientists who are commandeering today’s most advanced digital content creation tools in computer animation, video games and virtual reality, on a mission to affect patient health and improve outcomes. BioLucid creates highly-immersive visual applications used by healthcare providers around the world, as well as virtual reality experiences that simulate a “fantastic voyage” into the human body. As a “Pre-Med gone bad,” Jeff discovered his calling during a global circumnavigation in 1994 aboard a 32’ sailboat named Vagabond. He believes that artists have a primary role to play in helping heal and create understanding for today’s engaged patients, and is a strong proponent of personalized medicine. Jeff has also served as an adjunct professor at Ringling College of Art + Design in Sarasota, FL. The work of BioLucid has recently been featured in the Innovation Lab at Exponential Medicine in San Diego, and Jeff most recently spoke on VR at the mHealth Summit in Washington D.C. More details on his personal journey as an artist in healthcare can be found by searching his TEDx talk from 2013.
