Justin C. Sanchez is a Battelle Technical Fellow, where he provides strategic vision for Battelle’s life sciences research business, leads technical investment strategies, and drives collaboration with industry, government, and academia partners.
Prior to joining Battelle, Dr. Sanchez was Director of DARPA’s Biological Technologies Office, where he started 31 new programs and invested more than $1.65 billion. His programs developed foundational human neurotechnology for the United States BRAIN Initiative, delivered the world’s most advanced prosthetic arm to military Veterans, accelerated gene editing techniques for national security/human health, and formed partnerships to deliver countermeasures in the African Ebola crisis.
Prior to joining DARPA, he was an associate professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience at the University of Miami. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, holds seven patents and authored two books on the design of neurotechnology.
