Wainwright Fishburn, Jr. is a founding partner of Cooley LLP’s San Diego office, a prominent venture capital attorney, and chair of the firm’s Digital Health group. Mr. Fishburn is a member of the Board of Directors of the Wireless Life-Sciences Alliance (WLSA).
As a recognized digital health thought-leader, Wain is a frequent speaker at programs addressing industry issues, including USC’s Body Computing Conference, Impact Forum 2013 and the WLSA Convergence Summit. Wain is a pioneer in digital health and genomic medicine and represents a broad cross-section of digital health companies including AliveCor, AwarePoint and Misfit Wearables. Cooley represents over 100 digital health companies.
Wain is immediate past Chairman of the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research, a leading independent biomedical research organization. He is a founding director of the Corporate Directors Forum and BIOCOM, and a member of BIOCOM’s Executive Committee. He serves on the faculty of the Eureka Institute for Translational Medicine and on the Board of the Critical Path Institute, an organization created in part by the FDA, dedicated to improving the regulatory path for innovative therapies.
Wain is a co- founder of seven companies, two of which are public. Prior to law school, he worked as Assistant Vice President for Planning assisting with M&A activities for 12 operating companies. He completed post-graduate work as a Senior Fellow at the Australian National University and received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and served as President of the Hastings Board of Governors.
